Our ears perk up whenever someone talks about track and field, one of Twitchy’s favorite sports. Unfortunately, this particular statement by NBC News Correspondent Anne Thompson has us scratching our heads.
Literally, “breaking the 100-meter dash” doesn’t make sense. We’ll assume Thompson was referring to someone breaking the world record in the 100 meters by a full second.
Alas, that doesn’t make much sense either. The 100m world record has never been broken by a full second. Since electronic timing began in the mid-1960s, the men’s record hasn’t been broken by more than 0.11 seconds. Florence Griffith-Joyner broke the women’s record by a whopping 0.26 seconds back in 1988, but there have long been questions about the propriety of that particular record.

Update: Sounds like Thompson is guilty of global warming scaremongering.
