Bob Beckel: Al Qaeda doesn't exist anymore

Really, Bob?

Anman, Jordan — Jordanian authorities have arrested 11 suspected al Qaeda-linked militants for allegedly planning to attack shopping malls and Western diplomatic missions in the country, the government said Sunday.

The plot is the first to be unveiled since a triple hotel bombing in Amman almost seven years ago, which killed 60 people. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack, citing its rejection of Jordan’s alliance with the United States and its 1994 peace treaty with Israel.

KABUL, Afghanistan — A diminished but resilient al-Qaida, whose 9/11 attacks drew America into its longest war, is attempting a comeback in Afghanistan’s mountainous east even as U.S. and allied forces wind down their combat mission and concede a small but steady toehold to the terrorist group.

That concerns U.S. commanders, who have intensified strikes against al-Qaida cells in recent months. It also undercuts an Obama administration narrative portraying al-Qaida as battered to the point of being a nonissue in Afghanistan as Western troops start leaving.

SANAA, Yemen — Suspected al-Qaeda suicide bombers disguised in military uniforms stormed into an army base in southern Yemen on Friday, killing 14 soldiers and wounding more than 20, Yemeni officials said.

Al Qaeda terrorists murdered two soldiers in Algeria in an execution-style killing. A terror cell ambushed a bus of soldiers in eastern Algeria and forced the two soldiers off the vehicle, then shot them to death.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of a battle that has been taking place between the international terror organization and the Algerian army over the past several weeks.

After Team Obama’s horrid handling of the terrible tragedy in Benghazi, Libya, does anyone out there really cling to the left’s quickly unraveling yarn that this administration has a strong record on foreign policy and national security?

Sure, the prez and veep continue to chant the mantra that “Osama bin Laden is dead” — and, without a doubt, that’s a good thing. Problem is: al-Qaeda is very much alive.
