In the wake of Jason Biggs’ misogynistic comments about Ann Romney and Janna Ryan, The Colorado Rockies announced yesterday that it has canceled “Nickelodeon Day.” In response, thousands of Twitter users posted comments supporting The Rockies.
Major Nickelodeon advertisers, by strong contrast, have not taken any action to distance themselves from either Nickelodeon or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This morning, Twitchy contacted Nickelodeon advertisers General Mills, Kellogg’s, Sears, and Kraft Foods. All were familiar with the controversy.
None except Sears has condemned Jason Biggs’ comments. None has decided to pull ads from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
A Kellogg’s rep noted that Nickelodeon has deleted all the links it posted to Biggs’ sex-obsessed Twitter page.
Sears Holdings Co. and its subsidiary, Kmart, disavowed Biggs’ comments earlier this week, but they are not pulling ads.
“I have checked and see that Sears has not pulled its ads from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” said a customer service rep.
By contrast, Sears refuses to run ads on the Rush Limbaugh show. Sam’s Club, which is owned by Nickelodeon advertiser Walmart, also has said it will not run ads on Limbaugh’s show.
Some Twitter users say they will not buy products made by companies that sponsor Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Our campaign to remove @jasonbiggs from @TMNTMaster or boycott all advertisers of @NickelodeonTV @viacom is to escalate! ..
