The Nebraska GOP primary is today. Dark horse state Sen. Deb Fischer, a rancher, is surging after snagging a huge endorsement from former Alaska Gov. and VP candidate Sarah Palin. Will it get her over the line? The WSJ reports:

State Sen. Deb Fischer may yet fall short. She still trails state Attorney General Jon Bruning and state Treasurer Don Stenberg in both fundraising and visibility, but she has gained late momentum from endorsements last week from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R., Neb.).

“It’s for real,” said Jennifer Duffy, who follows Senate races for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. “She is the candidate moving, with a lot of doubts about the other two.”

For months, the race was seen as a contest between Mr. Bruning and Mr. Stenberg, who sought to position himself as a conservative insurgent. Strategists watching the campaign say voters may have disliked the front-runners’ attacks on each other. Reliable independent polling has been hard to come by, but an automated survey released Monday showed Ms. Fischer with 39% of the vote, Mr. Bruning with 34% and Mr. Stenberg with 18%. Three other candidates shared the remainder.

Twitchy reported on one of those off-putting attacks from Bruning, whose ridiculous charge of Twitter pedophilia against Stenberg seems to have backfired — but didn’t dissuade Santorum and Huckabee from throwing their support his way.

Here’s an election eve poll showing only one sure thing: It’ll be a nail-biter tonight. We’ll stay tuned.
