There are no words to describe the utter inanity of the Guardian Opinion section sometimes. This is not one of those times. Words like 'horrendous,' 'despicable,' 'utterly evil,' and 'desperate for attention' come immediately to mind. With that last descriptor in mind, this writer thought that he would provide some of that attention.
Israel must stop weaponising the Holocaust | Raz Segal https://t.co/eoqzxqBHsQ
— Guardian Australia (@GuardianAus) October 24, 2023
We should probably start with the author, as this is an opinion piece and not one that the editorial staff of the Guardian authored.
Raz is an Israeli historian and Director of the MA program in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Stockton University. He has authored a few works on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and, based on those works, is not what would be considered a Zionist. His stand with other 'Scholars of Genocide,' dated 20 May 2021, also shows a distinct (and not befitting a true academic) bias toward the Palestinians and against the Israeli people.
What Mr. Segal fails to take into account in both his opinion piece and the statement warning of potential genocide in Gaza from the 18th of this month are the facts that there has been no Israeli presence in Gaza since the withdrawal of Israel in September 2005, fiscal aid to the West Bank and Gaza in 2022 from the U.S. alone was $219 Million, and Hamas, the official governing body of the Palestinians since 2006, has significant funds to both purchase weapons and pay families of the terrorists killed in the act of committing individual atrocities.
Another item that Mr. Segal gets wrong is his assertion that the world is wrong to associate Hamas with the Nazis of old.
He does so here:
Biden’s words constitute therefore a textbook use of the Holocaust not in order to stand with powerless people facing the prospect of genocidal violence, but to support and justify an extremely violent attack by a powerful state and, at the same time, distort this reality.
And Here:
The context of the Hamas attack on Israelis, however, is completely different from the context of the attack on Jews during the Holocaust. And without the historical context of Israeli settler colonialism since the 1948 Nakba, we cannot explain how we got here, nor imagine different futures; Biden offered us, instead, the decontextualized image of 'pure, unadulterated evil.'
Of course, we weren't the only ones to notice the utter stupidity of the opinion piece and the inflammatory nature of the headline.
To start with, the Guardian Australia Post enjoyed a hearty ratio by everyone's favorite amphibian, 'The Frog of Shame.' (74:635 as of this piece's writing)
Then there are these replies:
‘They should just let bygones be bygones, you know, like the Palestinians.’

Because the creation of Israel has been such a winning argument for them.

I bet this article reads like straight fire when said in its original German.

We mean, the bar was already set pretty low, but the Guardian somehow found a way to tunnel under it.
As soon as the rest of the world stops trying to figure out how to complete the Holocaust we can have this discussion.

This person makes a valid point.
The article is even more disgusting than the headline. https://t.co/ivZBOnIQlW pic.twitter.com/Eeh7qUQ8fC

Alas, since we had to read the article in order to publish this piece, we are all too aware of that.
However much you hate the media, it is not enough. Not nearly enough. https://t.co/w17rPNrkr9

That is why we exist at Twitchy, to give you, dear readers, some balance.
This is why so many people fall for fake Guardian headlines. Because their real ones are just as bad. https://t.co/SDL2gQAoni pic.twitter.com/ZbWXLQr29P

You know why people say “Never forget”?
— Alexandra F. Baldwin (@VerumVulnero1) October 25, 2023
Because too many do their best to forget. https://t.co/vHAZa4i5Ng
Yeah, we couldn't have said it better ourselves.
Remember, kids, you don't have to post it just because you think it. Sometimes the words are best left unsaid. If you do post it, though, don't be surprised if you find yourself making headlines in a bad way. Sunlight is, after all, the best disinfectant.
