A 60-year old Southern California woman went on the run after skipping trial in January. Wanda Podgurski was convicted of insurance fraud and sentenced, in absentia, to 20 years in prison and over $1,000,000 in fines and restitution. She then reportedly opened a Twitter account to taunt law enforcement officers. “Catch me if you can,” she tweeted.
The district attorney’s office declined to say how authorities tracked down Podgurski, saying only that information from the Twitter account was turned over to its Computer and Technology Crime High-Tech Response Team, known by the acronym Catch.
Podgurski’s tweet was included in a handout from the San Diego County District Attorney’s office, but a spokesman said reports that Podgurski was captured “through her Twitter account” are inaccurate. Whether or not her Twitter shenanigans cost her the price of her freedom, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is celebrating the apprehension.

According to the San Diego County Jail database, one 60-year-old Wanda Podgurski is not eligible for release or bail, and it is not clear who is tweeting from the account.
