Over the next several weeks, America’s children will be returning to school. No thanks to Randi Weingarten and AFT, of course.
But Weingarten and AFT are apparently counting on all of us to be on summer break indefinitely, because this morning, Randi’s in Texas to promote R-E-S-P-E-C-T for public school teachers (and for AFT, of course).
This morning President @rweingarten is joining AFT Texas President Zeph Capo (@UnionmanTX), @TexasAFT, and state representatives and partners to kick off the Texas AFT RESPECT campaign. 🧵

Winning the respect public school employees and students deserve. https://t.co/EECAq4MdzA @TexasAFT

.@rweingarten: As we said at the convention, where the shortage report was unanimously was passed, the song r-e-s-p-e-c-t should be more than a song.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
.@rweingarten: when Aretha sang it, she sang it for a purpose and for a reason. At the end of the day respect is more than a song. It has to be a learned practice and a muscle that we use.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
We had to get a screenshot of that one, as AFT has deleted it for some mysterious reason.
Do tell. https://t.co/Qa1hK4Nr24
— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) July 25, 2022
Sorry, Mary Katherine. Guess they didn’t want to tell.
Don’t worry, though. They still had plenty more to say about the importance of school:
.@rweingarten: The place of school is really important in terms of our community clock, in terms of our societal wellbeing.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
.@rweingarten: What’s the most important ingredient to schooling? The people.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
.@rweingarten: it’s a bad crisis because people know how important it is, but politicians like Greg Abbott won’t pay for it. Instead they want to make the people who help kids bad.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
.@rweingarten: We turn it around by trust, tools, and time. And it starts with parents having a voice and teachers having a voice.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
Reminder: school choice gives parents a voice, but AFT hates school choice.
.@rweingarten: It’s not rocket science; it’s problem solving.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
It’s definitely not rocket science. But it’s also not problem solving. AFT is about creating problems.
.@rweingarten: Let’s do what’s right and learn from the pandemic and give students the schools they deserve and that starts with recruiting and retaining teachers.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
“Let’s do what’s right and learn from the pandemic.” Oh, that is so rich coming from Randi Weingarten, of all people.
"The only way that schools works is if the people in them work and the people in them are children and you. And what clearly happened in the pandemic is that it was made clear how important schooling is to parents and how important schooling is to society." @rweingarten
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
Randi Weingarten and AFT fought tooth and nail to keep teachers from working during the pandemic and even after vaccines were widely available (and keep in mind that teachers were prioritized to receive vaccines before the general public).
.@rweingarten: There is a sense that anything can disrupt what happens in terms of schools and the safety.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
.@rweingarten: When you just talk to parents––no matter the political denomination––there's such a sense of values about the importance of public education.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
“No matter the denomination.” She can say that now, because her and AFT’s campaign to keep kids out of school got so bad that even liberal parents were outraged. But AFT has been and will always be a Democratic Party machine.
.@rweingarten: Give us a voice. Give us support and give us the things we need to do our jobs.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
Please. AFT always had a voice and they always had the ability to do their jobs; they just chose not to use the latter.
.@rweingarten: No other profession assumes that you are going to go into your pocket to support that profession.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
What is she even talking about?
.@rweingarten: If we can do this in Texas, we can do this anywhere… The actions you're doing on the ground and the testimonials from educators that are staying in it are so important.
— AFT (@AFTunion) July 25, 2022
OK, that’s it. We’ve seen enough. We’re pretty sure that you have, too.
Randi Weingarten is an absolutely shameless liar and — despite being the fabulously wealthy head of one of the country’s most powerful teachers’ unions — has absolutely no business dictating policy for schools or being anywhere near your kids.
you don't respect parents. it's time to free families from your depraved clutches once and for all. https://t.co/6KBGPahQA8

From your lips to parents’ and legislators’ ears.
