Ricky Gervais offers a 'scary' assessment of the current state of Twitter discourse

Ricky Gervais’ personal philosophies may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but when it comes to the importance of free speech and exposure to other points of view, he absolutely nails it.

Earlier today, he offered this sobering but accurate assessment of Twitter as a purported platform for diversity of thought and ideas:

It is scary. Despite what some people insist upon, cancel culture is real. People have been un-personed for expressing the wrong opinion or asking the wrong question.

And, as Gervais points out, it happens on both sides. And it accomplishes nothing other than making the discourse even more toxic.

That’s not debate; it’s just intellectual laziness and genuine intolerance.
