We’ve gotta admit that we’d never heard of Maia before today. We had to Google her to learn that she’s apparently a social media star and singer who plays the ukelele.
Clearly that makes her important enough to merit being blue-checked.
Anyway, Maia’s got some friendly advice for anyone out there who makes it a habit to refer to women by a particularly degrading term:

it’s just very objectifying and dehumanizing, and i don’t think it’s always done with ill intent but we as people don’t go around describing men as “males” to nearly the same extent as this issue

science is fine! mainly referring to situation in which an individual critiques women by saying “don’t you hate when females [blank]”

Can I ask why it's more degrading than women? I don't use it when it's doesn't sound right, I'd just like to understand the implications behind it so I know what it is. Like when speaking in biology of a human/animal, but otherwise it's avoided.

The general discourse around it has to do with the fact that it “others” women. Kind of likening us to an animal or species that takes away from our personhood! Not using it when it doesn’t “sound right” is a pretty fair way of assessing its use IMO
