Democrats don’t want to take your guns; they just want to take your guns. Today, presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg made that quite clear:
Buttigieg says "assault rifles need to be on the table" for a ban because, "We’ve already decided that this is within the Second Amendment because we’ve decided that somewhere in between a slingshot and a nuclear weapon, we can draw a line. And that’s not unconstitutional…" pic.twitter.com/EFU701pWjg

Heh. In all seriousness, though, which civilians are running around with weapons of war?
The Navy issues AR-15s to their sailors??? Can anyone confirm this???
— EducatëdHillbilly™ (@RobProvince) April 17, 2019
I know I've said this before, and I know it won't be the last time, but AR-15s are not "weapons of war" simply because they are not issued/used in the military.
— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) April 17, 2019
I have good news for Mayor Buttigieg, we banned the new sales of assault rifles in 1986. AR-15s aren't issued by the army nor are they capable of fully-automatic fire like assault rifles. https://t.co/tk02KctjWe

You mean Pete Buttigieg isn’t being honest?
The definition of “assault rifle” is hardly a settled point, notwithstanding the gun lobby’s arguments that it is.
— John Hays (@johnjhii) April 17, 2019
Yes, it is. It has been for decades. Just because you don't know the definition or wish it was something else doesn't matter.

No. "Assault rifle" is a technical term for describing a select-fire rifle that fires an intermediate cartridge. The category is defined by the Sturmgewehr-44 which translates to "storm" or "assault" rifle.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) April 17, 2019
"Assault weapon" on the other hand is a political term with a number of different definitions depending on who is using it and when.

It would be nice if any of the Democrats running for president knew even the basics of firearms function and law. Or any politician, really. Or reporters, for that matter. Or editors. Or commentators.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) April 17, 2019
It would be nice if gun fans and lobbyists would stop playing semantics and engage in a conversation to get the style of gun favored by mass shooters out of circulation.
— Owen T (@nervous_time) April 17, 2019
It's not semantics. These are significant differences that matter when discussing policy. You need to figure out if you want to ban things that are already banned or ban things owned by tens of millions of Americans.
— Stephen Gutowski (@StephenGutowski) April 17, 2019
Exactly. Buttigieg should know better, and assuming he does, he’s demonstrating that he’s more than willing to prey on the ignorance of his listeners in order to score political points.
He’s lying. He knows he’s lying. He’s relying on the press not caring that he’s lying which they won’t. That’s only for Trump. Dems can lie all they want and the press doesn’t care. https://t.co/wsUGeA3Oig

I wonder when CNN will apple and orange Buttigieg’s lies he’s telling?
— EducatëdHillbilly™ (@RobProvince) April 17, 2019
Don’t hold your breath.
In the meantime, Mayor Pete:
Amen.
