In case you missed it, the New York Daily News’ editorial staff is being reduced about 50 percent as part of parent company Tronc’s move to “fundamentally [restructure]” the tabloid paper, “re-focusing much of our talent on breaking news — especially in areas of crime, civil justice and public responsibility”:
The grim news officially arrives at the New York Daily News, where staffers were just informed that Tronc is reducing the "size of the editorial team by approximately 50 percent and re-focusing much of our talent on breaking news."

Here's my story on the massive layoffs at the New York Daily News, a truly dire development for the proud tabloid and a dark day for journalism https://t.co/JNdywJpqNL

It’s such a dark day that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an official statement:

You do know that a private organization has no reason to notify the state before making staff decisions right?

One rule I do support is the separation of press and state. I don't think government should provide a single penny to any media organization.
I just don't think the conflict of interest serves people well at all. https://t.co/TZ8nvueWJ3

Just a little confused why private enterprise would notify “the state” before making an internal cost reducing decision. Hard as it may be is there a process/ring kissing in the state of New York to hiring and firing that is unique?

Does every politician from NY think that it's standard and acceptable for government to dictate and interfere with the business activities of private companies?
