Honest question: Is Ben Rhodes capable of taking a swing at Donald Trump and not hitting himself and Obama in the face?
Yesterday, in the wake of Trump’s admittedly disastrous performance with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Rhodes tweeted this:
The complete capitulation to Putin and abandonment of our values, the separation of children from their families, a reckless tax give-away to the wealthiest, and a constant assault on the truth – these are the defining events and characteristics of this catastrophic presidency.

Were we just imagining it when Democrats said nothing while Obama refused to take a stand against Putin?
If you were trying to script a more complete destruction of US credibility and win for Russia than the events of the last few months, you couldn't do better than this. Which raises the question of whether or not it was scripted, and by who.

To be clear: There is no excuse for Trump’s behavior in Helsinki. No excuse for his refusal to stand up to Putin and his despotism. But to suggest that Trump’s capitulation to foreign dictators is unprecedented is not only disingenuous, it’s a bald-faced lie.
What happens if the US President is acting on behalf of a hostile power? Congress could hold hearings, subpoena documents, and pass laws. The fact that they don't means Republicans are fully responsible for everything Trump does.

And if the Democrats are responsible for everything Obama did, they’re in some pretty hot water themselves. Because last time we checked — despite Ben Rhodes’ contention that Barack Obama was pure and scandal-free — Trump’s predecessor was only too eager to enable some hostile powers of his own.
