Hey, you know what’s a great way for celebrities to win the respect of flyover country? Talking down to them. Just ask Seth MacFarlane, who prefaced comedian and “roastmaster general” Jeffrey Ross’ defense of Michelle Wolf’s WHCD performance with this:
If you eat corn but don’t know how to grow it, your opinion regarding the skill is less valid than that of a farmer. If you watch standup but don’t perform it, your opinion regarding the craft is less valid than that of a comedian. So listen hard to what Jeff Ross has to say: https://t.co/UuYQZzWKx9

We’re not sure how Seth expects us to listen to anything over the sound of his finger wagging.
Drivel, this is is drivel and nonsense. https://t.co/KY3mRlVDGE

That’s a polite way of putting it.
So some opinions are more correct than others?… I like ya Seth. I think, oftentimes, you make a lot of great points, but I don’t think this is one of them.

Not by a longshot. Call us crazy, but insulting and dismissing your audience isn’t a great way to build and maintain a successful career.
remember plebs: if you are unsure about whether something is funny, ask a comedian. https://t.co/QbfvukWJti

Standup is PERFORMANCE ART. The idea that the audience's opinion is less valid than other comedians is hysterical!! But, then again, what do I know? https://t.co/6tikyQiod8

“You rubes have no idea what funny, is. We, THE PROFESSIONALS, will tell you what you are allowed to find funny!” https://t.co/k80FWauGdM

Isn't the whole point of comedy to make OTHER people laugh? So…wouldn't the audience's opinion of what comedy is be more important than the comedian? Same for all the performing arts. A good actor is only good if people watching think so.

The future is stand-up comedians explaining that audiences are wrong for not liking their routine, and because they are the comedian they are the experts and the audience's opinion on the matter doesn't carry validity. https://t.co/6ehac5vKjV

But if Seth MacFarlane really wants to go down this road, we’ll bite:
Does that same statement apply to gun control advocates also?
