I don't think the NYT has ever criticized Obama this harshly before in his presidency.

Yep, this one’s gonna leave a mark.
The New York Times, normally a reliable ally of the current administration, is suddenly not so keen on The One anymore. In response to the news about the NSA surveillance scandal, the Times’ editorial board penned a scathing indictment of the Obama administration’s “overreaching” and willingness to abuse executive power at the expense of citizens’ freedom:
The @NYTimes editorial board has finally had it with @BarackObama. My only question: What took you so long? http://t.co/6sCzgrtkIM

The Obama administration had credibility?
— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) June 6, 2013
Welcome to reality, New York Times:
The administration has now lost all credibility. Mr. Obama is proving the truism that the executive will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it.
NYT: This development "repudiates constitutional principles governing search, seizure and privacy."
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) June 6, 2013
NYT: To casually permit this surveillance "fundamentally shifts power between the individual and the state"
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) June 6, 2013
NYT: "The defense of this practice offered by Senator Dianne Feinstein…was absurd."
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) June 6, 2013
NYT says internal review by Obama Admin "is no longer good enough" and this "is the very sort of thing against which Mr. Obama once railed".

Hey, @davidplouffe, @PressSec, and @davidaxelrod: Go ahead. Call the NYT a right-wing smear machine. Just so I can say I saw you do it.
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) June 6, 2013
Will this be the straw that breaks the Times’ back?

And what happens next?
It will be interesting to see whether lead Democrats follow the NYT shocking editorial or cling to the President.

Man, I can't wait for the Media Matters article about the NYT drubbing of Obama.
