Weird science: Calif. lawmakers want insurance companies to cover gay infertility

Hey, why not? California has been circling the political drain for some time now, so goofy legislators might as well put a little more icing on that cake, right?

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano — a Democrat, natch — has introduced a bill that would require group insurance to cover infertility treatments for homosexual couples — regardless of gender. No, really:

The bill doesn’t require a homosexual couple to go through any types of treatment or methods, such as heterosexual sex, surrogacy, artificial insemination, etc. Rather, the mere inability to conceive a pregnancy or carry a pregnancy while having active sexual relations is sufficient to show a need for treatment.

(Emphasis ours.)

Now, we didn’t go to medical school, but it seems to us that, when it comes to how pregnancy happens, the science is pretty much settled. It takes two to tango, so to speak. At some point during the process, a man and a woman are required. Ammiano apparently skipped that lecture in biology class.
