Well, this is awkward.
As the star of the long-running “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” which centers around domestic violence and sex crimes, it’s not surprising that those issues have become very near and dear to actress Mariska Hargitay’s heart. In 2004, she founded the Joyful Heart Foundation “to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.” Today, she was in D.C. for the public launch of the No More campaign, “the nation’s first unifying awareness symbol to end domestic violence and sexual assault.”
My heart is overflowing with joy that I get to be part of #NOMOREday. You can get involved – @TheJHF has the details. http://t.co/NGOZmN1Y7M

Hargitay’s goal of helping women in need is indeed a laudable one — which is why we can’t help but wonder why on Earth she would be mooning over the man whose most recent contribution to domestic violence awareness was a veritable slap in the face of abused women:

There is nothing heroic about a man who isn’t all that bothered minimizes when a woman gets a slapped across the face. If Hargitay is indeed a friend of Biden’s, maybe she should let up on the effusive praise and garden-variety-slap some sense into him instead.

Joe Biden on domestic violence: Not ‘your garden variety slap across the face’
Editor’s note, 3/14/13 at 11:00 a.m.: The video clip of Joe Biden’s remarks that circulated on Wednesday omitted his assertion that even a “garden variety slap” is “totally unacceptable in and of itself.” This post has been amended with a strike-through to more accurately reflect that Biden minimized domestic abuse.
