Sen. Marco Rubio has taken some heat from conservatives for his support of Shamnesty Redux. Today, he had a chance to state his case on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show.
The Right Scoop has audio of the full interview:
FULL INTERVIEW: Rush Limbaugh interviews Marco Rubio on bipartisan immigration reform http://t.co/KOQcPD7M

Rubio says he remembers Rush's TV program. . . says he's a long time listener

Rubio made sure to emphasize his commitment to border security:
Rubio says that "blanket amnesty" is not a good proposal, repeats that border security should be part of the plan
— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) January 29, 2013
Rubio reiterating on Rush he won't sign onto any bill that doesnt have border security/enforcement as precondition.

.@marcorubio agreeing with @rushlimbaugh about absolute triggers for enforcement. Says he won't support bill otherwise. #MarcoRushio

Limited government is our goal, no doubt, but it’s important to remember what that limited government’s job is:
Border/security & enforcement should not be a "precondition." It should be the responsibility of government IN AND OF ITSELF. #shamnesty

Overall, despite his initial nervousness, the interview turned out well for Rubio:
Limbaugh to Rubio: "What you are doing is admirable and noteworthy." Conservative gold for Marco. Again
— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) January 29, 2013
Rush raving about Rubio: "That was impressive… not at all intimidated….kudos all the way around." More kabuki
— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) January 29, 2013
"IS THAT GUY GOOD OR WHAT?" Rush shouts about Rubio when he comes back from the break. "Here is a guy who does not fear talk radio."
— Jon Ward (@jonward11) January 29, 2013
Raves from Rush are coveted as conservative cred. Rubio did himself a favor today.
And regardless of your satisfaction with Rubio, he did say one thing we can all agree on:
Rubio: "Obama won't be president forever."
— Philip Klein (@philipaklein) January 29, 2013
Amen to that.
