House holds Obamacare debate in advance of tomorrow's repeal vote

Shortly after the Supreme Court handed down its decision to uphold Obamacare, House Republicans announced that they would be holding a vote on July 11 to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Debate over the potential repeal of the law is underway on the House floor. You can view the proceedings here.

The president’s already weighed in on the subject:

Great. That’s great.

Looks like the House is in for a long day:

Let’s hope that number increases tomorrow.

The arguments today for and against repeal essentially fall along party lines. Republicans cite the dangers Obamacare poses to the struggling economy, with skyrocketing healthcare costs and reduced jobs, and the harm socialized medicine has caused in Europe.

Michigan Rep. Paul Gosar took a more unique approach to making the Republican argument for repeal: Dr. Seuss.

Too bad more debates don’t include rhyming couplets.

Other than that brief moment of poetry, the representatives didn’t add much new material to the debate over health care reform. Democrats predictably brought up the millions of Americans who would be uninsured if Obamacare were repealed while failing to mention those Americans who elected to decline insurance. And, lest the Left try a different approach to making its points, a few Democratic congressmen made sure to name-drop sickly children who would die without the Affordable Care Act.

Several lefty Twitterers have noted that this isn’t the first time House Republicans will have voted to repeal Obamacare.

How much of an effect will today’s debate have? Not much, according to some.

But maybe things will be different this time around.

We’ll find out soon enough.

Twitchy will be covering the vote live tomorrow.
