Two Texas children discovered living in abandoned school bus

Conditions are reportedly filthy, but the girl says they have hot water, a bathroom and two bunk beds. Relatives may be checking on the children.

Officials say the children’s parents are Mark and Sherrie Shorten. They conspired to embezzle money from victims of Hurricane Ike in 2008 by assisting them in obtaining a Small Business Association (SBA) loan for the repairs to the damage the victims’ house sustained during the hurricane. Mark and Sherrie were charged with conspiracy and pleaded guilty in June 2011. In January, Mark was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Sherrie received the same prison term at her sentencing in February.
