Loyola prof explains that people who prize tidy pantries perpetuate classism, racism, and sexism

Does a messy pantry make you crazy? Do you like to try to keep yours clean and hyper-organized?

Well, if so, congratulations: you’re a racist sexist. Don’t take our word for it; take Loyola University Associate Professor of Marketing Jenna Drenten’s. Now, before you laugh or roll your eyes, hear her out. She’s obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into this:

More from Fox News:

Historically, Drenten says that tidiness is intertwined with status and a person’s messiness often breeds assumptions about a person’s capacity to be responsible and respectable.

“Cleanliness has historically been used as a cultural gatekeeping mechanism to reinforce status distinctions based on a vague understanding of ‘niceness’: nice people, with nice yards, in nice houses, make for nice neighborhoods,” Drenten writes. “What lies beneath the surface of this anti-messiness, pro-niceness stance is a history of classist, racist and sexist social structures.”

Drenten, citing her research, claims these viral videos of uniformly labeled and symmetrically placed supply bins, ingredient containers and shelves are created by predominantly White women and act as a “new status symbol” for what it looks like to maintain a “nice” well-kept home.

Or maybe there are people out there who understand that most people’s pantries are messy because the owners don’t have time to alphabetize their stuff and put it in clearly labeled bins or they just don’t feel like doing it, period. There are plenty of white-people pantries that fall into that category.

That’s how this works, apparently.

Yes!

Heh. Well, it’s clearly too late for that professor … best of luck to her students. They’re gonna need all the help they can get.
