As Twitchy told you, last night, Rachel Maddow breathlessly reported that the White House had altered a video of Donald Trump’s joint presser with Vladimir Putin, calling the White House’s actions “a form of information warfare and it is being waged against us.” Just one teensy little problem: the White House had done no such thing.
But Brian Stelter wasn’t terribly concerned about that. Mr. “Reliable Sources” himself took Maddow’s story and ran with it:
More than a week since the presser, and this still hasn't been corrected. https://t.co/dVdKMc2B51
— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) July 25, 2018
It’s bad enough that Stelter’s narrative got debunked by the friggin’ Washington Post. But it’s downright embarrassing that a White House reporter at Stelter’s own network wound up debunking it, too:

12 hours later and Brian has yet to tell his followers that this MSNBC story is wrong.
Weird. https://t.co/OjYq6x86ac

Hi Brian, speaking of corrections, will you be correcting yourself (and Maddow) now that Washington Post has debunked this? Truth and accuracy do matter after all. https://t.co/sAJb8C1hg1

Have you corrected yourself? This story is WRONG. Even WaPo shot it down. https://t.co/21nWckbYD2

Over 600 retweets. Will you be issuing a correction now? https://t.co/cpFAZNt4qg
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) July 25, 2018
No, but he will be grabbing a second shovel to dig his own grave:
"More than a week later, the White House has still not corrected a key omission in its official transcript of President Donald Trump's news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin." https://t.co/AExOS2eNBP

And Stelter just doubled down on it. Amazing. https://t.co/rOXMQsY0pI

BRO.
You just posted a story that's already been debunked.

Hey @JakeTapper, can you have a chat with your boy over here?
He just published this story that was debunked hours ago.
Maybe just send him your tweet about it? https://t.co/sfOmKxCb8J

Question: Does Brian Stelter talk to the other journalists who work at CNN? Because it doesn't seem he talks to the other journalists at CNN.https://t.co/tt8OljZBvf
If he had talked to @abbydphillip, he'd know that he shouldn't have posted this article 5 minutes ago. https://t.co/sfOmKxCb8J

BREAKING:
CNN Media Analyst, @BrianStelter, doesn't watch or read CNN.
— RBe (@RBPundit) July 25, 2018
I really hope the people at CNN who actually care about their credibility have a long hard talk with their management about what Brian Stelter is doing to the brand.

Is someone documenting how badly @BrianStelter just owned himself?
— RBe (@RBPundit) July 25, 2018
Good Lord.
Look, this was a scoop from centrist, unbiased journalist Rachel Maddow. You can't blame Brian for sharing this without verifying it.
— BT (@back_ttys) July 25, 2018
Brian will watch Fox News all day long looking for even the most minute discrepancies in reporting but then quotes Rachel Maddow at will, doesn't correct her and doesn't correct himself. Great work there "Reliable Sources"

Something tells me there won't be much holding himself to fake news accountability in his news letter or on his show with this one.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) July 25, 2018
Something tells us you’re right.
Washington Post: No the WH didn't omit details from Helsinki transcript
Joe Scarborough: My MSNBC colleague got this wrong
Brian Stelter: LEEEEEEEEEEERRRRROOYYY JEEEEENKKKINSS!!!!!— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) July 25, 2018
What a hack. How embarrassing for you and Maddow.
— Rob Solo (@robsolo) July 25, 2018
Doubling down on your #fakenews?
You truly are a hack.
— Jim Backs the Blue (@JimBacksTheBlue) July 25, 2018
…and that's why it sticks when Trump calls CNN fake news.
Right there.
