People of all political stripes have come together today to mourn the loss of Anthony Bourdain, who committed suicide. But as Oliver Willis has so viciously demonstrated, there will always be some people who will use the death of a beloved figure to demonstrate their own inhumanity.

Just over a year ago, after the deadly bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, freelancing blue-check David Leavitt tweeted a disgusting joke (which he later deleted “since so many people asked”). Here’s what it said:

MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.

Bourdain was one of many people who rightly called him out for it:

And now that Bourdain is dead, Leavitt feels like now’s a good time to fire back:

Pretty proud of that one, aren’t you, David?

Leavitt’s getting ratio’d hard:

And it couldn’t be happening to a nicer guy.

We concur. And it’s pretty clear that Bourdain had him pegged all along.

Update:

Yep, Bourdain was definitely right about Leavitt:

Quit while you’re behind, David.
