Dan Rather was on the news in our home when I was a kid most every evening. Now, I was pretty little back then and didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the news (I was far too busy with other things like coloring books and plotting to take over the world someday), but there was something oddly comforting in his being there every night.
Sort of like a neighbor or a distant cousin … he was a constant if that makes sense.
And then when he threw his career away because, in reality, he’s a biased hack so deep with Democrats he’d fake a huge story to try and hurt George W. Bush I was honestly shocked. Again, a younger more naive me who never would have suspected the media would push their own narrative and agenda when so many peopled used to rely on them to tell the story and the whole story, not what they wanted us to hear.
Looking at him now, I guess I’m shocked it took him that long to nuke his career for politics.
Like, he’s writing a troll piece for anti-Trump trolls on Substack?
REALLY?! And no offense to Substack or people who use it, but c’mon man.

We have seen some version of the same excuse each and every time Trump has blown past what had been the limits of acceptable behavior. Because it’s Trump, they say it’s okay. Everything he does is okay.
We saw it in the run-up to the 2016 election. We’ve seen it in the lies too numerous to count, the unstable actions, and the pernicious divisiveness. Heck, we saw it with two impeachment trials. It’s happened over and over again. It’s like a preschool teacher saying, in effect, “Oh that’s just Donnie being Donnie.” Except for every preschool teacher or responsible parent I know understands you can’t do that.
Sidenote, I had to edit the excerpt I brought in from his piece … that’s pretty embarrassing as well.
Don’t get me wrong, plenty of mouthbreathers are thumping their chests and laughing at this ridiculous piece about a man who isn’t president and hasn’t been in nearly two years. But really? All I can figure is Dan knows the Democrats are in trouble, and if they don’t have something other than the recession and inflation their policies created to run on in the midterms, they’re toast. So what better distraction than BUUUUUUT TRUUUUUMP.
