I write about so much stupid, awful, and ugly on Twitter (looking at you, Hillary Clinton) that anytime I get a chance to write about something awesome I am SO ON IT. And tell you what, this thread from @Patriot_Musket about his experience hiring a vet is one of the best things I’ve read in a long, long time.
Well, that whole making fun of Eric Swalwell farting on live television thing was pretty damn fun to write about, but it wasn’t exactly a ‘good thing.’
Anyway, Musket did a far better job just telling his story than I can writing about it, so enjoy.
One of the cool things about my job is getting to interview and hire people, and I'd like to tell you a bit about a fella we talked to today.

We had several candidates for this one job, this guy's went immediately to the final stage because 1) he interviewed well on the phone, and 2) he's an Army veteran. An actual combat veteran.

He answered every question thoughtfully and carefully, speaking in the quiet tones of a very big man who has seen some very serious shit.

As the interview went on and he walked us through his brief work history, he mentioned that being in the military was all he ever wanted to do, and that dream was destroyed by an IED in Afghanistan.

He was hoping to be hired on at an hourly rate high enough to support his SAHM wife and his daughter; his wife was a veteran of the War in Iraq.
He was also hoping "good insurance" would help him get the hearing back in one ear.

This guy, kid really, had his dreams of a lifelong military career destroyed by war, and rather than coming home to sulk, immediately went to work supporting his family doing some of the most grueling work there is out there.

He did some rudimentary study for the position and gave us all a firm handshake and a thank you. We all looked at each other and knew this was our guy.

Love this.
We as employers owed this kid a shot because he has heart.
We as Americans owed this kid a shot because he took a shot for us.
We as a country owed this kid a shot because we take care of the men and women who take care of us.

Hell yeah, we owe him.
We owe them all.
I left the interview room in absolute tears, so humbled to hear his story and so honored just to have met him.
He got the job and he got the money he needed to leave the miserable work he's doing now and support his family.

I’m not crying.
You’re crying.
Every day is a great day to be an American, but for me this one is going to be hard to top. ❤️??
