The Supreme Court on Monday upheld Ohio’s “use it or lose it” practice of cleaning up its voter rolls.
In a 5-4 decision, the court’s majority said the practice, known as the “supplemental process,” does not violate the National Voter Registration Act, which bars states from removing the names of people from the voter rolls for failing to vote.
The court’s five conservative justices voted in the majority, with the court’s four liberals dissenting.
Four liberals dissenting.
Shocker.
They’re probably worried about all of the dead people who were registered to vote in Ohio who will be removed and can no longer magically vote for Democrats in elections. Chuck Schumer threw a serious temper tantrum on Twitter.

The right to vote is the most sacred right we have as citizens. Aggressive voter purge systems like Ohio’s essentially make voting a “use it or lose it” privilege.

Actually, we would argue our most sacred right is life, but we all know how Democrats feel about that whole life thing.
Democracy suffers when laws make it harder for U.S. Citizens to vote. This decision is dangerous and damaging and is NOT why we passed the National Voter Registration Act in ‘93. In fact, this goes completely against the spirit of the law.

Nobody is making it harder for anyone to vote. All you have to do is register.
This isn’t rocket science.
The only thing this makes it harder to do, Chuck, is cheat.
When Congress passed the NVRA, a balance between was struck between the desire to make it as easy as possible for eligible voters to cast ballots and the need for States to maintain accurate voter rolls.

And that’s all that Ohio is doing.
In today’s decision, the #SCOTUS seemingly ignores the rights of the eligible voters who will be denied the right to vote in future elections simply because they chose not to vote in the past.

Nobody is being denied their right to vote. They’re only being cleaned out of a system if they haven’t voted in several years.
And again, all they have to do if they want to vote is register.
Which takes like five minutes.
Suck it up, Chuck.
Actually, this just disenfranchises voters who leave the state, fail to respond to a mailed inquiry, and don't vote for 4 years.

This is absurd. Proper registration is a prerequisite of eligibility to vote in the first place. And states do need to purge their voter rolls from time to time (deaths, people moving out of state, etc.). If you want to vote and haven’t voted recently, re-register if needed. https://t.co/Ye7ABxGzug

Let’s be honest, though. Any chance Chuck can get to pretend the SCOTUS is somehow trying to tip elections in the favor of the GOP so when Democrats are destroyed in the midterms (midterms which historically they should win) he has an excuse other than their platform is just crap.
