Because nothing inspires people to protest like some white guy pretending to be a black guy pretending to actually care about issues when really all he cares about his self-promotion.
Did we say that out loud? Oopsie.

The letter basically praises NFL players for being strong and using their strength to swing opinions and make statements and other happy horse manure that will make real football fans nauseous and long for the days when these guys just played ball.

Favorite bit from the letter is:
“Last year, an astounding 1,207 people were killed by American police. Already this year, 802 have been killed — Alton Sterling and Philando Castile among them. And here’s the thing — almost no true progress has been made to slow this down.
In the past 100 years, the deadliest year of lynching for African-Americans was 1919 when 76 black men, women and children were lynched. Last year, at least 102 unarmed black people were killed in America and almost nobody was held accountable for any of those cases.
Recommended
They may not call it lynching, but the extrajudicial killings of unarmed African-Americans by law enforcement officers are completely out of hand.”
Hey, we said it was lame.

Shhhh … it’s far more interesting to pretend it’s the police or the country at fault. Talking about personal responsibility is oppressive or something.
Notice how Shaun signs off on his open letter:
Your Friend and Brother,
Shaun
He wishes.
