If you weren’t running around this weekend, bellowing “HULK SMASH” along the streets, or shrieking “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE” and waking up your impatient roommates (for the sixth time), well, then you were in the minority.
Joss Whedon’s Avengers obliterated the opening weekend box-office record, formerly held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and before that, The Dark Knight. Samuel L. Jackson got up bright and early this morning to thank the fans, and those same fans have been celebrating all weekend, and continue to share their thoughts on the twitterverse.

With Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2 now a far-off second in terms of box-office openings, it seemed The Dark Lord, Mr. Voldemort, suspected foul play.

Shame on you, Voldemort, shame on you. It’s time to just bow your head and accept defeat gracefully. The Avengers have assembled, and the fans have spoken.
HULK SMASH (sorry, we had to).
