Big Labor is demanding job guarantees as the city school district moves to put out the jobs to competitive bidding. The union claims cost-saving measures will endanger the students. But every hire must undergo safety training and alcohol and drug testing. This is about archaic union protectionism, not safety. Look how gleeful union cheerleaders are that 150,000 students have been abandoned to the streets:
