Born Alive act passes S.C. House; President Obama opposes such acts

The act previously passed in the South Carolina senate:

“The measure says an unborn child attains all the rights of any other person at birth even if the baby survives an abortion attempt,” Gatling explained. “It has passed the S.C. House three times but twice died for lack of action in the Senate. If the bill gets third Senate reading, it must go back to the House for further consideration.”

Six Democrats joined 21 Republicans to pass the bill on second reading. Three Republicans were on leave. Only three senators, all Democrats, voted against this anti-infanticide bill.

During committee hearings, according to SCCL, Columbia pediatrician Dr. Stuart Hamilton testified in favor of the bill framing the issue in terms of compassion for infants who are born alive. Several other physicians opposed the state bill although a born-alive infant protection act has been in effect for 10 years at the federal level.

As a senator in Illinois, President Obama opposed such laws, caring more about the “burden” put on doctors rather than for the surviving babies themselves. Some are now trying to cover up his repugnant opposition to Born Alive acts.

The truth is that he not only condones the practice of leaving babies to die, he vehemently supports it:

As a Senator in Illinois, debating a Born Alive bill, he said this:

As I understand it, this puts the burden on the attending physician who has determined, since they were performing this procedure, that, in fact, this is a nonviable fetus; that if that fetus, or child — however way you want to describe it — is now outside the mother’s womb and the doctor continues to think that it’s nonviable but there’s, let’s say, movement or some indication that, in fact, they’re not just coming out limp and dead..

Not coming out limp and dead. Pesky babies not cooperating and insisting on having the human will to live and the strong spirit to survive.

We suppose he doesn’t want his daughters “punished by babies” who refuse to die.

Today’s passage by the SC House puts this act closer to becoming law, protecting the babies who refuse to “just come out limp and dead.”
