I'm one of those lucky parents who shares political philosophy with both of my kids. Many of my conservative friends with 19 and 25 years olds don't find themselves in that boat. Their kids have gone off to college and started believing in all kinds of wacky nonsense. It becomes a constant argument with lots of rolled eyes and screaming.
Not my kids. They are right wingers. Conservatives. Probably even more so than me. I could brag and pretend it was due to my parenting and to a degree it was. I talked with my kids about politics often, as did my Dad, and we did a lot of explaining. We talked to them about freedom, capitalism and the right to protect ourselves.
If I'm honest though, Charlie Kirk deserves a whole lot of the credit. More credit than I even understood until today when my kids learned of his murder. They are both so shocked, angry and sad. He was their person.
Charlie was a friend, he loved Jesus, he loved God, he loved his country, he loved his family. He believed and practiced the aspirational power that all held and was notable for his curiosity to debate people who held different world views.

So, thank you, Charlie. Thank you for teaching my son it was 'manly' to be vocal about his conservative principles. Thank you for modeling the importance of finding a wife and having children and rearing them well. Thank you for going into enemy territory and offering to debate. Thank you for showing young women like my daughter there are Jesus following young men out there and not to settle. Thank you for telling young women it was just fine to pursue motherhood and that was a most noble calling.
A million more Charlie Kirks have just been created.

What this shooter hopes to do is cower conservatives. I don't think it will work. I think young men and women will rise up because that's what Charlie taught them to do. He modeled being brave and bold. They'll do it for him.
Jesus defeated death so you can live.

My son just shared that Kirk tweet on his Instagram stories. Kirk proclaimed the name of Jesus. Now young people must pick up the mantle. My son and his friends are texting things like "he was only six years older than us and murdered because of what he believed in. The same things we believe in', and 'I'm crying right now, dude. He had little children and a wife he loved. How is this happening in America'. This is a watershed moment for young conservatives. They are witnessing the cost of defending freedom and the price was so steep. They see how unfair this all is. They weep with a Mother and children who have lost their father and husband.
So, thank you, Charlie Kirk for being the voice of a generation. Thank you for daring to believe young people would be attracted to conservatism if it was articulated to them properly. Thank you for having the audacity to show up and debate.
A bunch of parents like me owe you, Charlie. May God send His Holy Spirit to comfort your family and friends. I look forward to that fine day when Christ gathers us all together around His throne. What a day of rejoicing that will be.
