Hashtag Bootgate Is the Perfect Representation of a Political Party That Has Lost Its 'Sole'

I am a Republican and have always been proud of that. My Dad was a Republican and so was Grandfather, at a time when there wasn't that many Republicans in coal mining areas of Kentucky. My son is 23 and a Republican and he really loves Ron DeSantis. You see, my son is a Firefighter/Paramedic and DeSantis respected his medical autonomy and did not make him take 'the jab' as many Governors did. DeSantis also recognizes First Responders with bonus payments every year. My daughter is almost 18 and will be eligible to vote this next go round. In Florida, you can register to vote when you get your drivers license at age 16. Then, when you turn 18, you are all ready to go. She registered as a Republican as well. You get the gist. We are dyed in the wool Republicans. For the first time ever, it's almost embarrassing to admit it. Our party is concerned with such petty nonsense and the world is on fire. This week, it's #bootgate.

Republicans claim to hate the 'corporate media'. They don't. They LOVE it when they can use it against another Republican. Republicans are nothing if not always looking to cut off our own noses to spite our proverbial faces. Trump supporters are giddy they convinced a corporate media outlet to pick up their nonsense rumor. The next time Trump has a rally, though, he will complain about the media and say how they are all so bad and mean as his campaign account spreads this story.

Suddenly, Politico is a outlet you can trust implicitly. I'm getting whiplash.

Apparently, DeSantis went back in time and changed his height on his Yale baseball lineup as well. Sigh. The most annoying part of all of this is, it doesn't matter. The attacks on DeSantis' footwear isn't going to solve the problem in the Middle East or make your gas prices go down. None of this is going to help your kid just out of college be able to afford to buy a house. None of it is going to make it easier to retire when you turn 65. It's certainly not going to help you with your prescription drug prices or close our border. Our party has become a party of nonsense.

Go to any account that supports Trump today, and it is all they are talking about. They are obsessed with it. They are trying to get it to trend. Jason Miller, who honestly has much larger concerns (google it if you don't know) can't get enough of it. Literally, there are American hostages RIGHT NOW and this is our concern. How exactly does this inspire confidence in new voters? What are we as Republicans selling the every day American that would make them want to come join us in our tent and vote with us. Boot jokes?

Maybe I missed the memo and we are just at 'Republicans have just decided to watch the world burn so we are just going to make juvenile jokes until then' stage. If that is what we are doing, someone please let me know. There is so much that is not a joke going on in the world right now, I can't take much more of a party who just chalks every loss up to 'it was rigged' and doesn't do a darn thing to try and turn things around. We are quite LITERALLY doing the same thing we did when we lost in 2020 and hoping for a different result. It's like talking to a woman who keeps going back to a bad marriage. I'm exhausted. I've come to the conclusion Republicans aren't concerned about winning again and we are just fiddling while it all burns and in the meantime, we'll laugh hysterically about foot wear.
