As the race for the new Speaker of the House narrows, Republicans ponder who is up to the task

Right now, the Republicans in the House are working to determine who the next Speaker may be after the ouster of Kevin McCarthy. Some names suggested include: Donald Trump, Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan and even the Speaker Pro Tempore, Patrick McHenry. Different members have come out in support of Donald Trump, Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise for the most part. As if this has not already been a whole spectacle, apparently there will be a televised debate with Bret Baier airing on Monday night.

Too late, unfortunately. It is already a circus. This leads me to the point of today's VIP piece. Who would want this job? This is a very divided Republican caucus with a very tiny majority. No one on the Left will work with them unless it's to help them embarrass themselves like when they voted out McCarthy last week with no discernable plan.

The office has a great view, for sure, but is even that spectacular scenery worth it?

It appears Jim Jordan will get the nod of the Trump wing of the party. Jordan is well liked among most of the Republican House members, so it is possible he will become the consensus candidate. There is also still a great deal of loyalty to Steve Scalise, particularly after he survived an attempt on his life by a deranged Leftist.

The Democrats may well begin to regret working to oust the more moderate McCarthy. Time will tell.

There is no indication if this shake up will really result in any change. The new Speaker will have the impossible task of harnessing big personalities and actually getting any good governance accomplished. They will need the prayers of the American people because it currently is a thankless task with no defined goals.
