Michael Knowles suggests a different kind of prenuptial agreement to save America's marriages

Michael Knowles, political and social commentator, recently tweeted what he believes would be a good way to fix the divorce problem in America.

Most Americans would agree the breakdown of the family unit is a big reason for the cultural rot we are facing in this country. For full disclosure as I write this, I have been married and divorced. I initiated the divorce for reasons the Bible allows as I am a Christian. I believe adultery and abuse are reasons to seek divorce. I also know friends who have faced infidelity in their marriages and have worked hard to save their marriages. I find that brave and am happy to see some of those couples now thriving after much heartache. With that being said, we clearly have many people leaving marriage just because they 'fell out of love' or 'aren't happy', all very subjective emotions.

Certainly, those who are religious should have a deeper commitment to marriage as you make that vow before God and it is far less about the government and laws.

There were lots of thoughts on the idea.

So, she is literally your right hand woman? Giggle.

Clearly, Knowles' plan is far from fool proof, and there would have to be exceptions to the rule.

This is why adultery would nullify this rule. Adultery is a form of abuse, just of the emotional variety.

That's a relief. Heh.

A good start and perhaps the best idea. Perhaps, couples should have to work their way out of marriage rather than simply filing paper work and paying high priced attorneys. Clearly, it is an endemic cultural problem in America and there have been far worse ideas to address it.
