Supporters of those who protested and/or rioted in Ferguson, Missouri were calling out the mainstream media for their coverage of the predominantly white rioters at Keene, New Hampshire’s “Pumpkinfest.” At the fall festival, drunken college students overturned cars, set fires, threw bottles and clashed with police. Riot gear and tear gas were used to disperse crowds. Dozens were arrested or injured.
Critics of the media do have a valid point. There probably are a lot of reasons for the difference in coverage, racial bias among them, but ultimately Pumpkinfest doesn’t further any of the media’s standard narratives. It’s the flip side to the media’s tendency to gloss over ever present inner-city violence while obsessing for weeks over gun control when a white suburban kid murders people.
Actually…I do get it. Thanks @CNN #pumpkinfest #Ferguson pic.twitter.com/WwF7Kp0dgc

"Rowdy" is a peculiar word for the rioters at that #pumpkinfest, @cnnbrk. About 30 were injured. How about "violent"? http://t.co/QtqzoADN1D

"Unruly" and "rowdy" is how @cnn described #pumpkinfest rioters. I'm surprised CNN didn't call them "naughty".

Police at the scene in #Keene, NH deny rumors police dogs and/or rubber bullets were used to disperse crowds. #Pumpkinfest

Can someone ask Ryan “Rubber Bullets” Reilly to verify?
