NASCAR driver Tony Stewart struck and killed driver Kevin Ward Jr. last night during a car race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York. Just prior to being struck, Ward had exited his car and walked on to the racetrack after his car spun out.
This morning, #tonystewart, #RIPKevinWard, and “Kevin Ward” were all trending on Twitter in the United States:
The video, which has been posted to YouTube, is graphic and disturbing. Out of respect to Ward’s family, we have decided not to post it here this morning.
Local police are asking fans for amateur video of the incident:
The Ontario NY Sheriff's Office is seeking all amateur video of the Tony Stewart incident. Contact 585-394-4560
