Marco Rubio spokesman says Border Commission is the real deal; Conn Carroll calls BS

Sen. Marco Rubio press secretary Alex Conant  says the proposed Border Commission in the Gang of Eight immigration reform bill ensures that border security will be achieved before any illegal immigrants can apply for a green card.

Veteran DC reporter Byron York, however, see things differently. In a Washington Examiner article entitled, “On immigration, the Gang of Eight security promise that wasn’t,” York argues persuasively that the Border Commission is toothless.

“It sounded tough, intended to convince skeptical conservatives that reform would be based on stringent border security.  But as it turns out, the structure Gang sources described is simply not in the bill,” York writes.

York’s Washington Examiner colleague Conn Carroll took to Twitter this afternoon to call out Conant on his mendacity:

We hope not.
