Poverty Theater is never a good look on politicians. It never ends well.
Laughably out-of-touch Rep. Barbara Lee joined fellow Democrats in taking the Minimum Wage Challenge this week. The poor dear tweeted her #LiveTheWage hardships as she struggled to get through the week on $77 (a $290 a week wage minus housing costs and taxes).
Skipped breakfast today to save my yogurt. #LiveTheWage.

Had half a can of beans and a tomato for dinner last night; ate the rest for lunch and had another tomato. #LiveTheWage.

You are either a ridiculous liar, or the worst grocery shopper in the history of ever. @RepBarbaraLee

Before you read this next one, let it sink in that Lee is a member of the House Budget Committee.
Here’s my budget for this week's #LiveTheWage challenge. $5 in leeway isn't a lot if something happens. pic.twitter.com/9cPrp23M2g

Toothpaste: $5. Ridicule: Priceless.
I wouldn't put @RepBarbaraLee in charge a lemonade stand if this is how she budgets: http://t.co/wJABNkAa6l #liveTheWage

@SooperMexican @RepBarbaraLee $5 a week on toothpaste? How do you have time to do anything besides brush your teeth?
— Jeffffff Schwartzman (@Ethelssoninlaw) July 25, 2014
@SooperMexican For $5 I could buy brand name toothpaste for our family for at least 3 mos w/ coupons + sales @RepBarbaraLee #liveTheWage
