'I'm concerned for the human race': Why #RapedByASlothAndItWasAmazing trended on Twitter

Yes, #RapedByASlothAndItWasAmazing trended on Twitter for much of Saturday morning.

Clearly a GOP hashtag.

Part of the reason for the trend was disgust and outrage at the trivialization of rape.

So what kicked off the bizarre hashtag?

Jai Brooks is a member of the Janoskians, a teen YouTube comedy group based in Australia. Brooks has over 800,000 Twitter followers and the Janoskians have even grabbed the attention of Ellen DeGeneres.

In a series of since-deleted tweets, Brooks used the #RapedByASlothAndItWasAmazing hashtag to launch a follow spree on Twitter.

Brooks quickly moved on to other more pressing topics.

But the trend continued.
