Was Christiane Amanpour gushing with birthday love for Robert Mugabe? Or is her mastery of irony just so sophisticated that no one appreciated that her tweet was dripping with scorn for the thuggish Zimbabwean dictator?

After deleting her “Happy birthday, Robert Mugabe” tweet, Amanpour sneered at the “severe irony-deficit in some circles.” She told The Daily Caller that she “helpfully adjusted” the tweet because “[t]his was not a greeting, this was scorn.”
