Egypt considers death penalty for 'Innocence of Muslims' filmmaker, Terry Jones, 6 others

Egypt has issued arrest warrants for eight individuals linked to “Innocence of Muslims,” the crappy film the Obama administration blames for deadly mob violence in the Middle East.

Charges, which could result in the death penalty, are being brought against Florida Pastor Terry Jones, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man thought to be behind the film, and six other Coptic Christians.

The Associated Press reports on the absurd theatrics aimed at soothing hurt Muslim feelings:

Egypt’s general prosecutor issued arrest warrants Tuesday for seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor and referred them to trial on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that has sparked riots across the Muslim world.

The case is largely symbolic since the seven men and one woman are believed to be outside of Egypt and unlikely to travel to the country to face the charges. Instead, the prosecutor’s decision to take legal appears aimed at absorbing at least some of the public anger over the amateur film, which portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, womanizer and buffoon.

The prosecutor hopes to bring charges of “harming national unity, insulting and publicly attacking Islam and spreading false information.” We eagerly await the Obama administration’s response.

It’s a charade, though the Muslim Brotherhood is certainly hopeful President Obama will help a Brotherhood out. But charade or not, it won’t stop free speech-squelching libs from cheering on Egypt the way they’ve cheered on the criminalization of free expression in America.

Pastor Jones also says he’s been banned from entering Germany.

Correction: An earlier version of this post inadvertently referred to the controversial film as “Innocence of Islam.” “Innocence of Muslims” is the correct title.
