Chilling: Filmmaker linked to 'Innocence of Muslims' questioned by federal officers

The AP reports that Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man thought to be behind the film “Innocence of Muslims,” was “voluntarily” (and totally coincidentally) removed from his home to be interviewed by the feds after the Obama administration blamed him for deadly violence in the Middle East.

A Southern California filmmaker linked to an anti-Islamic movie inflaming protests across the Middle East was interviewed by federal probation officers at a Los Angeles sheriff’s station but was not arrested or detained, authorities said early Saturday.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was interviewed at the station in his hometown of Cerritos, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Don Walker said.

The White House also pressured Google to remove the film from YouTube. Is this what freedom of speech looks like in Obama’s America?

This is beyond disgraceful. It’s utterly chilling.

In 1989, a New York City newspaper was firebombed after publishing “The Tyrant and His Chains,” a scathing criticism of America’s bookstore chains for cravenly pulling copies of Salman Rushdie’s “The Satanic Verses” from their shelves after the Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa.

The newspaper, Rushdie and freedom of speech received bipartisan, unqualified support.

Mayoral candidates Ed Koch, David Dinkins and Rudy Giuliani gathered with hundreds of community residents to offer their support for the Press, and newspapers around the country reprinted “The Tyrant and His Chains.” As “a statement of solidarity with the publishers of the Riverdale Press,” Democratic Senator Daniel Moynihan asked that the editorial be printed in the Congressional Record alongside a resolution “condemning the threats against the author and publishers of the Satanic Verses.”

Speaking on the Senate floor just before the resolution passed, Republican Senator Bob Dole said:

Terrorism is terrorism. It is abhorrent. It must be condemned. There is no justification for it, period.

No blaming the victim. No justification, period.

Two decades later, our president blames free speech for violent Islamist attacks and sets out to chill the First Amendment rights we treasure. Two decades later, our government is kowtowing to Islamists and deputizing law enforcement officials as blasphemy police with a wink and a nudge’s worth of pretense.

Embassies are burning, Americans are dead and the Left is waging a war on Western free speech on behalf of the violent mobs.

Is your blood boiling yet?
