Fidel Castro is a frequent target of social media assassins, and once again, rumors of his death are bouncing around the Twitterverse.
Woah apparently Fidel Castro is dead. News was announced on Twitter account @GobiernoCuba

The Government of Cuba has just announced the passing of Fidel Castro. RIP.

Announced by the Cuban government? Not so fast. Here are the tweets that started the latest Castro death rumor:

Castro has been out of the public eye since June, but the media have not reported on his supposed demise. While @GobiernoCuba claims to be an official Cuban Twitter account, it is unverified and has sent just a handful of tweets, most of them today.
Castro death announcement looks like a hoax, put out by fake twitter account @GobiernoCuba claiming to be Govt of
Cuba. @ferialhaffajee— Shailja Patel (@shailjapatel) August 17, 2012
Rumours of Fidel Castro's death coming from an odd unverified Twitter account with only 4 tweets: http://t.co/ekF2OrA6 Seems suspect

The "official government of Cuba" Twitter account that had one tweet, one minute before it "announced" Castro's death, is clearly BS.

Okay, wait on the Castro thing… Govt account that had 1 tweet 60+days ago, and now announces Castro's death? #ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmm
