The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations agent was working along State Highway 186 near Farm-to-Market Road 493, just west of the Hidalgo-Willacy county, line when he was shot in the abdomen shortly before 4 a.m., those sources said.

As of 8:30 a.m., more than half a dozen different law enforcement agencies were on the scenes, including ICE, FBI, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Marshals Service, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, Texas Rangers and Hidalgo County Constable’s Office.
Sheriff Treviño said investigators were working to identify one or more suspects in the shooting.
