Joyce Carol Oates wonders why pro-life protesters want to completely eliminate abortion.
Thousands of protesters against abortion marching in SF yesterday. To bystander, what did it mean? No abortions for them, or for anyone?

@JoyceCarolOates Reasonable that men, young children, nuns might not want abortions for themselves but–is the campaign against any & all?

She reasons that being pro-choice doesn’t force abortions on anyone.
Abortion issue pro or con is essentially freedom of choice/belief. Pro-Choice does not force abortions on anyone or any religious "belief."

Anyone except the human life that is terminated in the process. Other than that, it’s completely innocuous.
@JoyceCarolOates I don't think that's how pro-lifers see it. An abortion is the killing of a human life.

@JoyceCarolOates Abortion opponents believe it is murder. Want to stop it. For them, not a matter of choice, but of right and wrong.

.@JoyceCarolOates When one can't speak for themselves, isn't it up to others to speak for them? Providing #EqualOpportunity to all?

@JoyceCarolOates Is it a "personal" belief to be against murder?

@joycecaroloates: At least for myself, I am protesting what I view as the devaluing of a human life (no matter how small it may be). 1/2

She would rather pro-lifers march in support of other causes.
Would be uplifting to see 50,000 Right-to-Life people marching to protest actual living conditions among the poor & the wrongly imprisoned.

@JoyceCarolOates – you mean if they agreed with your values instead of theirs?
— Marc Danziger (@marcdanziger) January 25, 2015
Exactly.
.@JoyceCarolOates Would be nice to see you marching with those trying to make sure the helpless first have a shot at the "living" part.
