While illegal immigrants flood across the southern border into the United States, citizens seeking to cross from the U.S. to Mexico are in for an even greater challenge than before due to a reduction in hours at customs offices in Mexico.

This report details the cutback:

Mexico’s Tax Administration began reducing hours in all its customs offices along the U.S. border on July 4.

Officials say the changes will help them to better utilize staff, technology and infrastructure for the processing of merchandise.

But Mexican citizens bringing back used vehicles purchased in the U.S. through Santa Teresa, New Mexico say the new hours have left them frustrated. Drivers say they have had to wait several hours or even overnight to get across.
