Is anyone surprised by this?
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has partnered with CNN and gave the network an “exclusive first look” at a political ad he’s running on Fox in Florida on July 4th that bashes Gov. Ron DeSantis and encourages — get this — Floridians to move to California:
CNN was given an exclusive first look at a political ad from Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) set to air in Florida, targeting Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and other members of the state's Republican party. Watch: https://t.co/mDQxtNgh03

“Freedom is under attack in your state,” Newsom tells Floridians:
NEW from me and @scontorno – first look at @GavinNewsom’s new ad against @GovRonDeSantis’s leadership of Florida, and about the different futures they’re avatars of:

Newsom also told CNN’s Edward-Isaac Dovere that “we’re as different as daylight and darkness”:
“We're as different," Newsom told me, "as daylight and darkness."
Over the course of a 20-minute phone interview, Newsom called DeSantis a bully, a fraud, an authoritarian, a fake conservative, a betrayer of Ronald Reagan's legacy and, several times, "DeSantos."

Here’s the ad that CNN’s Christopher Cadelago called “a very expensive troll of Ron DeSantis“:
Transcript:
“It’s Independence Day. So let’s talk about what’s going on in America. Freedom, it’s under attack in your state. The Republican leaders, they’re banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors. I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight or join us in California. Where we still believe in freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate and the freedom to love. Don’t let them take your freedom.”
Does anyone believe that he’s not running for president?
Newsom says he’s not running for president, but against DeSantis as the “poster child” for evolving GOP extremism:
“The success of the right to define the terms of the debate, the success of the right to dominate the narrative … they're winning in ways that are alarming to me”

CNN didn’t say who the spox was that gave this response, but it’s straight-up 🔥🔥🔥🔥:
DeSantis declined an interview, but his spokesperson responded to the ad:
“Gavin Newsom might as well light a pile of cash on fire. Pass the popcorn for his desperate attempt to win back the California refugees who fled the hellhole he created in his state to come to Florida."
