Aaron Carroll, Chief Health Officer at Indiana University, is calling for “alternative guidance for mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic vaccinated and boostered people testing positive for Covid” because the “[m]andatory 10 day isolation is going to make things really difficult for essential services (and hard to enforce)”:
It can’t be said enough. We really need alternative guidance for mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic vaccinated and boostered people testing positive for Covid. Mandatory 10 day isolation is going to make things really difficult for essential services (and hard to enforce).

This is long overdue as there are thousands and thousands of people in this group already figuring it out for themselves. For example, all the college students who just tested positive with mild or asymptomatic Covid. Do health officials really think they’re isolating in their dorms or apartments away from family during Christmas?
Sadly, the downstream effect of the current guidance is that it will incentivize a lot of sane people to just NOT get tested if a 10 day quarantine might force them to miss over a week of work, travel, or holidays with loved ones. https://t.co/BCqdCm67p6

Dr. Anthony Fauci said a few moments ago that this new guidance is being discussed:
JUST NOW: Dr. Fauci on whether the 10 day quarantine period could be reduced, based on new data:

What’s insane that after two years of the pandemic we still don’t know the answer to this:
How contagious are these cases? https://t.co/IFZHv5JCsL

And this is going to be a major issue come January 3 when schools are back in session:
Also ppl who are exposed but have no symptoms can’t sit in penalty box for 7-10 days & then wait for results of PCR test. Current isolation guidance can easily turn into de facto lockdown with this caseload. Most people will likely either get Covid or be exposed in coming weeks https://t.co/DqTrMI4Eoz

But it’s not just students. Do we really need to have fully vaccinated and boostered doctors and nurses stay at home for 10 days after a positive test?

Fix this, CDC. Now.
