Elon Musk, either the richest or second-richest person in the world depending on the day, announced early this morning that he’s “off Twitter for a while”:

Imagine if he did show up in a rocket if not to Mars but just to orbit the Earth?

Anyway, people aren’t sure his hiatus will be a long one:

And now for the speculation as to why. . .
Is it because of the fallout over his recent comments on GameStop and Bitcoin?

Or does it have something to do with the nearly 135,000 cars that were just recalled:

Tesla and regulators had been fighting over this for quite some time now:

From back in November when Tesla argued a full recall was not necessary:
1/ Remember Tesla's "Warranty Adjustment Program" for Model S/X owners who had touchscreen display problems including straight up blackouts? Welp. NHTSA / ODI just expanded the investigation into an "engineering analysis," per @Reuters https://t.co/8GLSFrtO5k
— Lora Kolodny (@lorakolodny) November 16, 2020
2/ From the NHTS Office of Defects Investigation filing on 11/12/2020: " There are precedents for addressing defects that result in loss of either backup camera, defogging, or turn signal functions under Investigation: EA 20-003." In other words… https://t.co/5TYcBveo8s

3/ Tesla offered a "warranty adjustment" — which will cover costs for some people who had to pay for MCU repairs out of pocket, and enable replacements of flawed MCUs or components for some owners — however, seems like they still could face a mandatory recall.
— Lora Kolodny (@lorakolodny) November 16, 2020
4/ NHTSA ODI filing also shows their office received 537 complaints about the MCU issues. And Tesla provided ODI wi/ "2,399 complaints and field reports, 7,777 warranty claims, and 4,746 non-warranty claims related to MCU replacements."
— Lora Kolodny (@lorakolodny) November 16, 2020
5/ Per NHTSA ODI: "The data show failure rates over 30 percent in certain build months and accelerating failure trends after 3 to 4 years-in-service." AND "Tesla indicated that the MCU failures are likely to continue to occur in subject vehicles…"

6/ What do you know? If consumers tell regulators when there's a problem, eventually they have to take a look into the matter.

7/ In case you missed it, here was our story at @CNBCtech last week on the Tesla warranty changes impacting some Model S and X owners. Don't call it a recall… yet. https://t.co/5kpV4NXj8z

Welp. Hopefully, the chip they put in the monkey’s head doesn’t get recalled, too:
