Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told the people of his city that they could not celebrate the 4th of July this year with family and friends because coronavirus makes it just too dangerous:

We’re going to have to celebrate differently this year. Everyone should cancel plans with others for the 4th of July. You shouldn’t gather with anyone who doesn’t live in your household.

Please stay home and save lives — it’s that simple.

But the good people of Los Angeles had other plans:

They will not comply, mayor:

No fireworks in Los Angeles. Which means fireworks everywhere, on every street. Wish I could explain that to my terrified dogs — that this too will pass, and it's only some moron in the vicinity.

It’s almost as if cheering on protesters for weeks had the opposite effect of what they wanted:
