On Monday, a federal judge in San Franciso stopped a Trump administration program to house asylum seekers who entered the U.S. illegally through Mexico are returned to Mexico to await a determination on their status:
That a single federal judge in San Francisco can upend immigration policy for the entire country —https://t.co/7p0XljGBqx puts a spotlight on the Senate's Executive Calendar where 34 nominees to such court wait for their 2 hours of debate: https://t.co/yHAStPL7p7

From the Washington Post:
U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco enjoined the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) policy days after outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen pledged to expand the program. The policy began in January at the San Ysidro port of entry in California but has been extended to the Calexico, Calif., entry and to the entry in El Paso, and Seeborg wrote that the approach would have been further extended if the court had not stepped in.
And here’s the policy from the DHS website:
The Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) are a U.S. Government action whereby certain foreign individuals entering or seeking admission to the U.S. from Mexico – illegally or without proper documentation – may be returned to Mexico and wait outside of the U.S. for the duration of their immigration proceedings, where Mexico will provide them with all appropriate humanitarian protections for the duration of their stay.
In response to this ruling from a single judge, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders blistered Dems, saying “it’s sad that Mexico is now doing more to secure our border than Democrats”:

A liberal activist judge in San Francisco ruled the United States and Mexico can’t work together to address asylum issues at the border. It’s sad that Mexico is now doing more to secure our border than Democrats – President Trump will do whatever it takes to keep Americans safe.

Sen. Tom Cotton had some tough words for Dems, too:
Another crazy immigration ruling from activist Obama judge. Even if Mexico agrees to keep migrants, judge says no! Must release into our country! Democrats will do anything for open borders. https://t.co/zrGlhEVgk0

Ouch.
Reminder: There are over 34 judicial nominees just waiting to get confirmed. Get cracking, Senate:
We can discuss in a few minutes. I will suggest you suggest to @senatemajldr staying in session round-the-clock until all 34+ nominees for district court (some will emerge from @senjudiciary tomorrow) are voted on. https://t.co/xSvVkC1YYm
